THCa (tetrahydrocannabinolic acid) is a natural compound found in hemp plants. In its raw form it's non-intoxicating โ unlike its more famous counterpart ฮ9-THC, raw THCa won't get you high. THCa is the precursor to THC and is present in fresh, unprocessed hemp flower. When heated, THCa decarboxylates into THC, which is what produces the psychoactive effect. On its own, THCa is being studied for potential anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and neuroprotective properties. Our THCa lineup covers flower, vape, edibles, and concentrates so you can explore the format that fits your routine.
THCp (tetrahydrocannabiphorol) is a rare cannabinoid naturally found in hemp. It's a structural homolog of THC, but with a longer alkyl side chain that lets it bind to cannabinoid receptors more strongly than ฮ9-THC does โ which is why it's often described as more potent gram-for-gram. Research is still early, but THCp is being studied for its impact on mood, pain, and relaxation. Effects vary by dose and format, so we recommend starting low and slow. Our THCp products include tinctures, oils, and edibles.

You must be a legal adult in your state of residence (21+ in most states; 18+ in some). We verify age at the door via the age-gate before you can browse.
We ship hemp-derived THCa, THCp, and CBD products to most US states, fulfilled from Atlanta, GA. A small number of states restrict specific cannabinoids โ if your state has a restriction we'll flag it at checkout. For state-specific questions, email info@bigmoosehemp.com or use the chat widget.
Cannabinoids stimulate appetite โ the classic 'munchies' effect โ for a few reasons. THC (which THCa converts to under heat, and which THCp resembles structurally) binds to CB1 receptors in the brain and digestive system, which increases the release of ghrelin, the hunger hormone. It also heightens taste and smell perception, so sweet, fatty, and intensely flavored foods feel more rewarding. And it nudges dopamine release in reward circuitry, which biases you toward indulgent rather than neutral foods. Effects vary widely person to person โ not everyone gets cravings โ and moderation still matters.
Effects depend on the cannabinoid, the dose, the format, and the individual. **Short-term effects** can include relaxation or mild euphoria (especially with heated THCa or any THCp), mild dry mouth and red eyes, and short-term memory or coordination changes โ so don't drive or operate heavy machinery while you're feeling effects. Some users feel anxiety or paranoia at higher doses, particularly without prior tolerance. **Long-term, heavy use** carries risks: the same respiratory irritation as any smoked plant material, possible tolerance buildup, and (in adolescent or genetically vulnerable individuals) increased risk of mood or psychotic disorders. **CBD on its own** is non-intoxicating and is generally well-tolerated, with the main caution being interactions with prescription medications metabolized through the same liver enzymes (talk to your doctor if you're on regular meds). If you have an underlying health condition or are pregnant, consult a healthcare provider before using any hemp-derived product.
Format determines onset, duration, and intensity. **Smoke or vape** flower or concentrates โ onset is fast (minutes), duration is shorter (1-3 hrs), but it's harder on the lungs. **Edibles** (gummies, chocolates, drinks) take 30-90 min to kick in but last 4-8 hrs and hit harder than smoke at the same labeled dose, so go low and wait. **Tinctures** placed under the tongue land in 15-30 min with precise dosing. **Topicals** (creams, balms, roll-ons) work locally on skin and joints without producing a high, since they don't enter the bloodstream. **Capsules** are like edibles in capsule form โ predictable dose, slow onset. **Concentrates / dabs** are for experienced users โ extremely potent, single hits can be heavier than a full joint. Whichever route you choose: start low, wait long enough to feel the effect, and only increase the next time. New to hemp? Start with a 5mg edible or a single small inhale and don't stack.
Two main families: cannabinoids and terpenes. **Cannabinoids** include THCa (the non-psychoactive precursor that converts to THC under heat), THCp (a rare cannabinoid with stronger receptor binding than THC), CBD (non-psychoactive, well-known for relaxation and anti-inflammatory research), CBN (a sedative cannabinoid that forms as THCa degrades), CBG (the 'parent' cannabinoid that other cannabinoids are synthesized from in the plant), and CBC (anti-inflammatory, non-psychoactive). **Terpenes** are aromatic compounds that shape the experience: myrcene (earthy, calming), limonene (citrus, mood-lifting), pinene (pine, alertness), linalool (lavender, calming), caryophyllene (peppery, anti-inflammatory), terpinolene (herbal, mildly sedative). The combination of cannabinoids and terpenes is called the **entourage effect** โ it's why two strains with the same THC% can feel completely different.
Hemp-derived THCa, THCp, and CBD products are federally legal under the 2018 Farm Bill (โค 0.3% ฮ9-THC by dry weight), but states have their own rules and a few states restrict specific cannabinoids. Whether they're appropriate for a medical condition depends on the condition and your overall health โ consult a licensed healthcare provider before treating anything serious with hemp products. Common reported uses include sleep support (CBD + CBN), inflammation and joint pain (CBD topicals), anxiety (low-dose CBD), and chronic pain (mid-dose CBD or balanced THCa/CBD). We don't make medical claims about our products, and our COAs disclose every cannabinoid + contaminant test result so you can take them to your doctor.
If home cultivation is legal where you live, the basics: pick a strain that suits your climate, germinate seeds (or root clones), give them 18 hours of light during veg, drop to 12 hours when you're ready to flower, manage temperature (60-80ยฐF) and humidity (40-60%), water as needed without overwatering, and harvest when trichomes turn cloudy with a few amber. Cure cut flower in glass jars at 60-65% humidity for 2+ weeks for full flavor. **A simpler shortcut:** if you're in a state where Big Moose can deliver clones, our Genetics lane sells rooted starts that take the germination + early veg risk off your plate. Visit /clones to browse.
Store hemp products in an airtight, light-proof container in a cool, dark place (ideally 60-70ยฐF). The four enemies of cannabinoid + terpene preservation are light, heat, oxygen, and moisture. Glass jars with rubber-sealed lids are ideal; popular brands include Boveda or Integra Boost humidity packs, which hold the jar at 58-62% relative humidity. Don't freeze flower โ frozen trichomes get brittle and break off. For larger stashes, divide into smaller jars so you're not exposing the whole supply to air every time you open one. Concentrates last longer in the fridge (silicone or glass containers only). Store in original packaging when in doubt โ most reputable brands ship in light-blocking containers.
Bring three things to the conversation: a clear description of the symptoms you're hoping to address, an honest history of any cannabis or hemp products you've already tried (and how they affected you), and a list of every medication you're currently on. Ask specifically about (1) drug-drug interactions โ CBD and other cannabinoids can affect how your liver metabolizes some prescription meds, especially blood thinners and certain antidepressants; (2) format and dosing โ your provider may have a preference between tinctures, edibles, or topicals based on your condition; (3) any conditions where hemp use is contraindicated, like a personal or family history of psychotic disorders. If your provider isn't familiar with hemp-derived products, that's normal โ ask for a referral to a cannabis-aware physician, or bring our COAs (lab certificates) to give them concrete cannabinoid + terpene data to work from.
Smoking and vaping flower or concentrates produces the most odor; edibles, tinctures, and topicals produce essentially none. If you want flower without the lingering smell: use a vaporizer (dry herb or concentrate), open windows for cross-ventilation, run a HEPA + activated-carbon air purifier, exhale through a sploof (a small filter device) which traps most of the aroma, and clean your pipes/vapes regularly so old residue doesn't smell up the room. Store flower in an airtight glass jar โ Mason jars with rubber-seal lids work well. Cooking with cannabis or making your own edibles will smell up the kitchen for a few hours, so plan for ventilation. Quickest discreet route overall: stick to gummies, tinctures, or topicals.
The endocannabinoid system (ECS) is a cell-signaling network in your body that helps regulate sleep, mood, appetite, pain, immune response, and reproductive function โ basically, it keeps your internal systems in balance (homeostasis). It has three parts: **endocannabinoids** (anandamide and 2-AG), which your body produces on demand and acts as chemical messengers; **receptors** (CB1, mostly in the brain and central nervous system, and CB2, mostly in the immune system and peripheral tissues), which the messengers bind to; and **enzymes** (FAAH and MAGL), which break the messengers down once their job is done. Plant cannabinoids like THCa, THCp, and CBD interact with this same system โ that's why hemp affects mood, appetite, pain, and sleep. The ECS exists in every vertebrate, regardless of whether you ever use a cannabis product.
CBD (cannabidiol) is a naturally occurring compound in hemp plants. It's one of the most-studied cannabinoids and is non-intoxicating โ CBD on its own won't get you high. CBD interacts with your body's endocannabinoid system to support functions like mood, sleep, immune response, and pain perception, which is why people reach for it for stress, anxiety, sleep, and inflammation support. CBD is legal federally under the 2018 Farm Bill (โค 0.3% ฮ9-THC by dry weight) and shows up in tinctures, oils, capsules, gummies, and topicals. Our CBD lineup is third-party lab-tested โ every batch ships with a COA you can scan at the product page. Browse the CBD shelf at /cbd.
